The film portrays
mask theater director Andreas Meister
and mask designer/performer Lille/Sylvia May.

They have long been—and remain—integral to the
inclusive work of the BLAUMEIER Project in Bremen,
which is now in its 40th year:
Andreas has been involved for 40 years, Lille for 30.

In the early 1980s, the
Kloster Blankenburg psychiatric facility (Lower Saxony)
was closed down.

The BLAUMEIER ATELIER enabled
people now living in assisted housing
to engage in a wide range of artistic activities—
including mask work,
which was intensively guided
and shaped by Andreas and Lille.

The portrait film invites the two protagonists
to reflect on their artistic development
and follows them during
rehearsals for the anniversary project
“THE LIFE OF MR. LOUIS”
—a mask-based revue
drawing on years of stage and street performances.

Finally, the film presents a brief sequence
from each of the five scenes—
or rather, *tableaux*—
of this theater production,
followed by closing remarks from the protagonists.
